WHAT IS IT?
Chronic immune system dysfunction due to the body’s reaction to environmental chemicals, electromagnetic radiation, multiple food allergies/sensitivities and inflammation that is affecting multiple organ systems.
As we evolve and expand as a society, we also increase our toxic load of overstimulation. We all understand that the chronic exposure to chemicals promotes dis-ease but what do we do about it? Many have struggled with being exposed to heavy metal toxicity, candida overgrowth or even food allergies/sensitivities. The question still remains as to why? The labs may confirm these unfortunate events, which are partly due to the liver’s inability to break down toxins because it is so overwhelmed. My concern is the next course of action. Is it wise to address an overburdened system with more synthetic supplements that, yes, the liver also has to eliminate?
There is a time and a place for everything. I am more than aware of the healing benefits provided by using nutritional supplementation, herbal medicines and homeopathic medicines. Should these be our initial healing options? They may work to maintain health, but the initiation of health is a journey (much like many spiritual practices of initiation).
In the study of formal science, you learn about kinetic (motion) energy and potential (stored) energy. The potential energy is that of non-moving objects. The point of it being “potential” is not to say that is has no energy due to its lack of movement. The “potential” is the building, growing and evolving of this calm and still object. As we sit calm and still in nature or in meditation, we are restoring our bodies by enhancing our potential energy. This is the energy that provides us with our innate healing. This is the initiation. There is great action in inaction and tapping into this as a healing option can bring about relief, especially if we are overwhelmed with the rapidly moving pace of this society.
We are all healers and we own some of our best tools to healing. We just have to quietly listen to our potential.
HOW DO I HEAL?
Lifestyle factors are first and foremost. These include, but are not limited to:
1. Total avoidance of chemicals – this may difficult in home or work environments, but avoid entering areas where fresh paint has been applied (or use latex, no-to-low VOC paint), avoid places with cigarette/cigar smoke, avoid many common nail-shops due to high levels of formaldehyde or similar chemicals, avoid perfume/cologne counters in stores, switch to more natural flooring options (such as cork flooring or wool carpet)
2. Natural cleansing – invest in an air purifier for your bedroom, clean the home with a mixture of lemon juice, baking soda and vinegar (avoiding common cleansing agents), using “greener” cleansers, avoid the use of aerosol cans and use essential oils or inscents as fragrance options.
3. Drink plenty of filtered water – water holds a “qi” or a life force. The life force is one of movement, release and fluidity. Increasing the consumption of a naturally detoxing life force, creates synergy in the cells. Drink as much as you feel that you need. For an increased detox, occasionally adding the juice of ½ of a lemon can increase the liver’s function in expelling toxins.
4. Introduce Organics & Local – reducing the amount of chemical pesticides would be very important. Try alternating one organic produce per week (i.e. you purchase broccoli, carrots and apples in your weekly grocery list, pick the apples as the organic option this week and rotate the following week). Local produce is usually more fresh due to its minimal exposure to petrochemicals via truck. Produce sharing the same region as you do provides an increase in community interaction.
5. Use the Healing Power of Nature – take time to get fresh air, find a remote area in a park, away from vehicles and buildings. Spend 30 minutes (15 minutes in colder months) taking in fresh air as often as possible. Connect!
6. Turn off electronics – please turn off wi-fi, cell phones, computers and all electronics while sleeping. Try to avoid having them in your bedroom at night. The electromagnetic radiation that these devices emit can interfere with normal hormone production (specifically melatonin while sleeping).
7. Meditation/Prayer/Quiet Observation – as we decrease the chemical toxins, we MUST reduce the emotional toxins. Releasing negative self-talk and past grudges would be the therapeutic result. Sit and be. Mindfulness produces gratefulness.
